How to Play Online Poker
Poker is a card game where players bet into a pot to try to get the best hand possible. The highest hand wins the pot. If two identical hands tie, the pot is split. If three or more people have the same hand, a tie is broken by the highest unmatched card.
Typically, the first player makes the first bet. If a player folds before a raise, he or she does not have to bet anything. However, some positions require a forced bet. When a player makes a forced bet, it is said that he or she has a “sit-down”.
Some games require a player to have a certain number of chips before making a bet. For example, stud poker is played with a “big blind” and a “small blind”. To make a bet in a stud game, the player must place a minimum amount of chips into the pot, and then match the previous bettor’s bet.
There are many variations of the game, but the basic rules remain the same. A poker hand consists of five cards. Each of these cards is ranked from Ace high to ten. Depending on the game, the suit of the cards may or may not have a relative rank. Occasionally, a joker is added to a pack of cards. Depending on the game, a pair of aces can be treated as a straight.

The flop is the set of three face-up cards that are dealt after the first round of betting. Each player receives one card face-up and can discard one to three additional cards. These can be replaced with another card.
